Vanessa grew up in NYC and went to college in Boston. Though she learned to play the guitar at age 8, it was while in college in Boston that she pulled out her guitar for the first time to write songs. Some of her first performance experiences were at the open mic at the Speakeasy in NYC and playing solo at coffeehouses in both New York and Boston. After college Vanessa moved to Denver and earned a doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the age of 29.
