The members of Anilore met in 1992 at college. They soon realized that their musical tastes were shaped by the same influences--bands such as Joy Division, the Cocteau Twins, New Order, the Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Red House Painters, the Pixies, and Nirvana; artists such as Tom Waits and Nick Cave; and the seminal alternative British labels 4AD and Creation Records. After many years of lineup changes, demos, etc., the band recorded their debut album, Still Awake, in 1996. In 2006, guitarist Andrew Malenda decided to re-master Still Awake.
